GILLAM AND THE OIL FIELD.
Uncle John Hutchison returned last Thursday from his visit in Canada with old friends and relatives. He says that within the lapse of 16 years so many are gone and places have changed, that it doesn’t look like the same old home, On his return home he visited one day at the Buffalo exposition.* Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grimes left Friday for Bradley, 111., to attend the funeral of Mrs. Nettie Grimes, Mrs. Frank Gritr.es’ sister. Messrs. Frank Lafever, Willard Deselms, and Roy Steirs left Saturday for Buffalo, New York, where they will spent a week at the exposition. Mr. Preston is still drilling on the Stinger lease. There are four drills in the neighborhood of Asphaltum, all within hearing distance drilling for oil. Rev. Hanley closed his series of meetings at West Vernon M. E. church which he has been holding for the past two weeks, last Monday evening.
Out new postmaster at Asphaltum is kept hustling on mail days. One would be surprised at the amount of mail that goes and comes to that place. Rev. J. Sebring gave a very interesting talk Sunday evening, which was enjoyed very much by all the young people. Warren Swisher is on the sick list.
