Frank Stone went to Lafayette today, on business. Burton Jenkins, of Barkley tp , is quite sick of typhoid fever. J. T. Penn went to Ligonier this morning on business. E. P. Honon went toMishawanka yesterday to attend a meeting of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Mrs. Jefferson Smith, of Newton tp., returned yesterday from a visit at Homer, 111. Miss Lena Washburn rfcgfined to Chicago j esterday, after visit with her parents herq^» The Mothers' Meeting will be held Saturday, in the east court room, at 2:30 p. m. Uncle Sammy Parker is recovering from bis sickness with malarial fever. Mrs. Levi Reynolds, of Reynoldfc* came yesterday to visit relatives in and near Rensselaer. Mrs. Elizabeth Van Nice returned toMonon yesterday, after a short visit with relatives here.
A nine pound boy was born yes terday to Mr. and Mrs. Win. Walters, southeast of town. Only about i the crop of apples in the country this year according to statistics. Mrs. P. H. Halligan northeast of town, had a light stroke of paralysis Monday, but is recovering from it very satisfactorily. Miss Mary Eger returned today from Denver, Col., where she had been visiting friends for the past three months. Regular services at the Methodist churcn Sunday morning and evening. The evening topic will be: “Is God Changeable?” Miss Lizzie Zink returned here yesterday from a six weeks’ visit with her parents at Wapakoneta, Ohio. Mrs. Susan Wishard, pf Greenwood, Ind , came yesterday to remain all winter with her brother, W. W. Wishard. All members of the Rensselaer foot ball team are requested to meet this Thursday evening at the court house square for practice. Dr. J. Allen, of Pontiac, 111., returned home yesterday, after having spent several days in Jasper county, looking after his farm lands of which he now owns about 1400 acres.
The Endeavor society of the Barkley Christian church will give a Measuring social at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Burns on Saturday evening Nov, 2, 1901. Everydody invited. Henry Tinder has been improving so rapidly the past two or three days that his recovery is now considered certain. Which will be good news for his assailant, young Jim Blake, in the county jail. Frank J. Gant, of Union tp„ whose condition since his paralytic stroke 4 or 5 months ago has been several times mentioned, has lately grown much worse, and his death ie[now only a question of a few days atj most. Ben F. Wolcott, advance agent of the Royal Stock Co., is here today. and arranged with Manager Ellis for Wednesday and Thuredaynights of next week. The company will present [“A Royal Reception 1 ' the opening night. Rev. and Mrs. A. L. Ward and eon Paul took their final departure from Rensselaer this afternoon, They'will make a short stay in Indianapolis before going to Martinsville, the scene of Mr. Wards future labors, as pastor of the Christian church at that place. Mrs. Nancy Plank returned to her home near Logansport today, after a, short visit with her brother, J. C, Thrawlp. She was accompanied home by her other brother, JosepbiThrawls, of Illinois. Mrs. McKinley and grand daughter, of Ohio, remained here for a more extended’vieit. There will be a social at Oak Grove school, Walker tp., Saturday night Nov. 2nd.
