GOOD BOOST FOR BARNEY.
Barney D. Comer, the champion gravel road building trustee of Jasper county, and of many other counties, also, has received the
marked recognition of being appointed as one of the regular state staff, of Farmers’ Institute Instructors, for the season of 1902.1 The following subjects have been I assigned to him. “The Good Shepherd.” “Sheep Husbandry,” “Cattle Feeding,” “Farm Leaks,” “Character Building,” Relation of Farmer and Tradesman” and “How to Make Gravel Roads.” The/ counties he is to lecture in will be assigned later by the proper authorities, at Purdue University. Mr. Comer is able to discuss all these subjects in an able and instructive manner, but most of all be at home in the last. When it comes to giving a township a good system of gravel roads in such a smooth and easy way that the people never feel the expense, Barney is a past master. His township, Union, now has 15 miles of gravel pikes, all built under Mr. Comer’s direction, without any additional cost to the people. It has more gravel roads than any other township in the county except Marion, and the movement is now under snob excellent headway that 3 or 4 miles of pikes will be graveled every year until every important road in the township is included.
