NEWLAND. Husking corn is the order of the day. Fred Germain went to Chicago on business Thursday, Four car loads of fine lumber arrived here Saturday to be used in building ten new houses. T. M. Callahan attended the Postmasters’ convention at Lafayette last week. Arietta Stivers and Day Jordan went to Rensselaer Thursday and purchased a new organ for the Sunday school at Newland. George Healey of the Rensselaer Republican was a Newland visitor Thursday. Thurman Smith went to Ora Thursday. Qullia Dunfee went to Wheatfield Saturday on business. Joseph Dunfee and wife and son George, who spent the past year in Kingfisher, Okla,, have returned to Indiana, and are temporarily visiting at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Herman Smith. Mrs. A. Jordan, of Gibson City, is visiting her son, W. N. Jordan. “Little Trixie” met with a hearty reception at the High Street theatre yesterday afternoon a large audience generously applauding the performance. The piece is a musical comedy, with only the shadow of a plot, but enough to allow the graceful introduction of a score of pleasing specialties in the way of singing and dancing and some very clever bits of comedy business. The musical selections were of the popular kind and were all introduced in the cleverest manner. Nearly every member of the company appears in a specialty and the concerted musical numbers were all good. The various features are refined and of the catchy order. —Columbus (O.) State Journal.
