Another “Old Landmark”.
Another o’d building in Rensselaer that has outlived both its usefulness and beauty is now in progress of demolition, the first shingle in the work having been torn off Wednesday afternoon. It is the rather large building on the corner of Washington and Cullen streets, on lots now owned by Judge S. P. Thompson. This building was put up some time in the 50’s, by John Spangle, an old time tailor, who used it both as a shop and a residence. It has had quite a list of owners since that time, including Mrs. Michael Schneider, of Cleveland, Ohio, and her father, John Bislosky, of Newton Tp. The smaller building on the same lot, which was moved on it a few years ago will also be torn down before next Spring. It is now reported, with much appearance of reliability, that next year Judge Thompson will carry out his several times deferred plan of erecting a fine business block on this corner; and that one of our largest mercantile firms will occupy it,
