As a good deal has recently appeared in print regarding the consumption of sugar, and as the importance of this article as a food, in which every individual is concerned, is apparently not sufficiently understood, the following facts and figures furnished by the wellknown sugar statisticians, Messrs. Willett and Gray (91 Wall street, New York), who are the publishers of the weekly Statistical Sugar Trade Jqurnal, must necessarily be of great Interest to all our readers: RAW SUGAR. Tons. On October 8, the quotation for Cuba Centrifugal sugar, 96 per cent, test, free on board Cuba, was 1.96 cents per pound, and the duty on same amounted to 1.685 cents per pound, which is equivalent to 86 per cent, ad valorem.
