Deacon’s Untimely End.
A Crawfordsville paper gives the facts of the tragical fate that has just overtaken a formerly well known and popular resident of Rensselaer. He was known by the name of Deacon, and was a fine spaniel dog, the property of Dr. Ensminger, and previously belonging to W. B. Austin, who bought him from Colorado. Deacon was out with the doctor one night and found and ate some poisoned substance that probably had been put out for some other dog. Deacon received his name from his peculiar coloring, which closely imitated the canonical vestments of deacons in Catholic and Episcopal churches.
