Ed Parcells is seriously sick with liver and kidney trouble. Mrs. Lizzie Crane, of Columbus, Ohio, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Porter. G. W. Tanner, of Barkley, is making a few days’ business trip to Danville, 111. Mesdames John and Ed Randle, east of town, are making a trip to Lafayette today. Mrs. James Adair, Crete, 111., returned home today. She came to attend the Norman silver wedding. Bom Thursday morning Oot. 17th, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thornton, Barkley tp., a daughter. Miss Maud Healey returned to Sanderson business college, at Indianapolis, today. .Mrs- Geo. Minnicus, of Chicago Heights, returned home last evening, after a few days’ visit with Andy Minnicus’ family. Cottingham Brothers of Fairbury, 111., are here today, looking for land, under the leadership of Fred Sargent. Mrs Geo. Hollister and children of Kniman, joined Mr. Hollister here today. He is making only very slow progress in improvement from his sickness. The regular trains are not yet running over Klondike sink-hole, but the track over it is being ballasted this week, and trains will begin running over it about next Monday. Mrs. Elizabeth Kauffman and Mrs. Jennie Dugan, of lowa City, lowa, arrived today for a two weeks visit with their brothers, Harvy Wood, southeast of town and E. H. Wood, of Lee, and other relatives. T. C. Churchill, now of Saloam Springe, Ark., is baok for a short visit with his parents and other relatives here He was in the land [drawing at Elßeno, Okla., but his name came out too late to secure a claim. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Wells and son, of Newman, 111., returned home today, after two weeks visit with relatives near Parr. Miss Ethel Perkins, who was here to attend her sister’s wedding, returned to the state normal school at Terre Haute, today. Isaac Lemna, of Dwight, 111., who contracted for the Green Thornton farm, in Barkley, came over today, in connection with that deal. J. t*}. Lamborn, of Remington, and daughter Miss Golda and his young son, took the train here this morning, for Chicago, where Miss Golda will enter the Columbia School of Music, for the eneniug winter session.
John Maxwell got a bad thump, yesterday, while working on a barn for G. W. Tanner, on the Mrs. Brown farm, neat' Pleasant Grove. A 2 by 4 timber fell 14 feet and struck him on the head. It knocked him senseless for quite a while, but it is thought he will be around again today. Mr. Tinkham, advance agent of the Henderson Stock Company, was here today arranging for the appearance of their company here all of next week. The company has been playing in neighboring towns and received very favorable notices. One of the plays they will produce here is “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” Women’s Relief Corp No. 39, of Rensselaer will have Memorial Services at their hall Sunday Oct. 20th at 2:30 p. m., in honor of our President William McKinley.
