College Lands in Starke.
Chancellor W. H. Hickman, of DePauw university, has completed the sale of about 900 acres of land in Starke county, realizing $17,000 These lands were donated to the university by the late David Macy, of Indianapolis, more than 50 years ago. They were located by soldiers’ land warrants that were purchased by Mr. Macy. Mr. Macy was treasurer of the university for many years, and was a great friend of “Old Ashury.” These lands were held as an endowment, and it has been suggested that the trustees of the university devote the proceeds of the sale to the establishment of a fund to support a chair named in honor of the man who furnished this property. Over 1,250 acres of such lands have been sold by Chancellor Hiokman. ~
