Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 34, Number 12, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 11 October 1901 — The Brick Streets Are Finished. [ARTICLE]
The Brick Streets Are Finished.
The three blooks of brick paved streets around the public square are now completed and opened to the publio use. We doubt not they will make a smooth and lasting street, but at the same time doubt if they are not open to serious objections from the faot that the sand the bricks are laid on and that between their interstioes will absorb and retain filth, to a very objeotionable degree. If the bricks were laid directly in a soft bed of cement, and with oement between the bricks, this abjection would be obviated, and this is said to be the most approved method of making brick streets.
