Delirium tremens fell off 31.3 per cent, and insanity 31.7 per cent. The annual average of court-martial conviotion for drunkenness was reduced more than one-half under the canteen system, and the desertion rate showed a similar deoline All army statistics show that the era of the canteen was one of the least injury from the use of intoxicants and promoted discipline.
