GILLAM AND THE OIL FIELD.

The thief who stole a horse and buggy and SSOO in gold from the bank at Royal Center was seen through these parts next day. Mr. Frank Lafever, Mrs. Mcßride and daughter Mary accompanied Tby Miss Mace Grimes are visiting in Kniman this week. Unde Jesse Osborne of Rensselaer is visiting relatives in Gillam. He expects to make his annual trip to the south soon. \ The Misses Clara and Zelma Grimes left Monday for Bradley, 111. where they will visit relatives and friends for some time. Mrs. Eunice Freshour whose serious illness was mentioned before, died last Thursday evening at he father’s home, Mr. George Coppess She leaves a bereaved husband, fath er and mother, one brother and host of friends to mourn her loss The funeral took plaoe Saturday morning at Independence chapel. Miss May Smith gave a lawn social last Saturday evening, the evening was very pleasantly spent in music and games after whioh refreshments consisting of ioe cream, cake and fruits were served, The St. Joe Co., is shipping their oil this month in order to get more tank room. Their new well on section 33 near the new M. E. church, promises to be one among the best in the field. The Federal Asphalt <& Oil Co. is drilling and pumpingwith all their rig and are getting several hundred barrels of oil per week. Thrashing is over and a good many of the farmers find employment is the oil field. ’ Dunn & Law are putting down qnite a number of wells on the Reoord lease. There is a good showing in each of the wells. The Jasper Co. Oil Co. is drilling wells on some of their different leases, and have began pumping their flowing wells on the Williams lease. They expect to drill more wells in the vicinity of this one and are getting everything ready for the big power which they are putting in and bids fair to be the master lease of the oil field, mmSSiSSSSm

The New York Oil Company has shut down on account ,of gasoline. The officials of the company were inspecting their works and will begin working in full blast in a few days.
