City Council Proceedings.

A remonstrance was filed to the ordered improvements on Forest and Merritt streets, across the railroad. It was headed by A. W. Cleveland and signed by almost all the property owners. The Merritt street improvement was postponed but the two blocks on Forest street were ordered improved and the contract for 12 feet wide of macadam was let to T. J. Sayler & Co. for 85 cen ts per lineal foot. A petition was filed to postpone until next spring the previously ordered improvements on River street. It was quite generally signed, but was frowned upon by the council, and the contract was awarded to T. J. Sayler & Co. at $2.85 per lineal foot. The contract calls for a 30 foot street, with curbs. The city council filed a report showing the property owners effected by the completed improvmeats on Cullen and Van Rensselaer streets. The council will meet on Sept. 16 to fix the assessments as per notice elsewhere published. The contract for the city printing and advertising was awarded to the Republican, for the year ending with the first meeting night in August, 1902. A resolution was adopted to make a sewer of Ma kemself ditch The sewer will be 30 inches in diameter from its mouth to Main street and 24 inches the remaining distance to its source near the stock pens. The matter of improving Washington streets from Cullen to Division was referred to the committee on streets, who were instructed to confer with the finance committees. 41 claims were allowed.
