Wheatfield’s Farmers Picnic
The farmers’ picnic at Wheatfield last Saturday was attended by about 1,500 people and the crowd was splendidly entertained by the program of events. A speech appropriate to farming was made by John L. Moorman, editor of the Starke County Republican, who was raised on a farm. He was loudly cheered at several points and every farmer Who listened to it went home happy that his lot was cast among the agriculturalists. The music was furnished by the Wheatfield choral society, a large company of good singers, who had learned several new and blithsome songs purposely for the occasion. Two running races occurred, a horse belonging to a man named Meadows won the first race, and Lon Neis’ Dunnville pony won the second race. The base ball game between Wheatfield on the one side and a combined team of Medaryville and the oi fields on the other, attracted the most attention, and Wheatfield won by a score of Bto 4. This makes the second victory for Wheatfield over Medaryville, the first game having been won by a score of 3to 2. The crowd was orderly and all seemed to be out for a good big time, and to have it in unrestrained quantities.
