Put Off the Cars and Killed.
A 16 year old boy named Jacob Sohmacker died in a Chicago hospital, a day or two ago, from being run over by a train, at Edgemoor, on the B. & 0. railroad, in Lake Co. According to some accounts the boy belonged at Mt._ Ayr, but fuller and more reliable statements say his father lives at Burlington, Carroll Co. The boy and a cousin were put off an excursion train, at Edgemoor, for rough conduct, having been drinking a good deal, and the boy probably tried to get on the train again, after it started, and fell under the wheels. That at least is the trainmen’s story. But a sensational account in some of the papers states that the boy when dying, said the men who threw him off said, “there goes Mennonite No. 1,” after robbing him of 80 cents. The trainmen’s story is much the more probable.
