An Old Time August Frost.

Lowell Souvenir:— The cool nights recall to memory the night of August 23, 1863, when a heavy frost destroyed the corn and all kinds of vegetation; the grass even being frozen so hard it oonld be kicked off its roots the next morning. The weather had been similar to that of the first of the week, bat on this night mentioned it turned decidedly oold and the withering, killing frost made his visit over a month earlier than usual. In those days corn was the principal crop and the farmers were pretty blue that season, especially when they had to go over into LaPorte oounty the next spring for seed corn. Let ns hope that history will not repeat any each misconduct of the weather.
