The Indiana Potato Crop
James L. Keecb, known as the “Indiana Potato King,” in a recent interview said:. V * “Maryland fears a potato famine and it is predicted there that ‘taters’ will see $5 a barrel, bat Maryland cuts but little figure in the business. The Indiana potato crop is practically a failure. The potato states are Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and New York. The potatoes will come around all right later in the season. The early southern crop was good, bnt was soon sold out. The drought has held back the earlier northern ones, so now there is practically none coming on the market. Potatoes are $3.50 a barrel, but I think they have reached the limit aud will soon begin to drop.” While Indittna may not govern the potato market, the failure of the crop inflicts a loss of thousands of dollars and is a very serious matter to the farmer.
