Hurty Not So Badly Scared.

And now Dr. Hurty, the state health officer, says he is not nearly so badly scared about the bubonic plague as recent widely published reports represented him to be. Well, it don’t make much difference whether he was or not. Hurty is always hollering before he is Hurted, and people are getting used to his panics. He explains now that he never expected the plague would literally sweep the whole state, leaving not people enough to pay to take the census of, but that cases would occur here and there over the state, taking off a few of the dirtiest and greasiest of the population, including a clean sweep of the tobacco-juice squirters of all generations. Great is the bubonic plague and Hurty is its prophet!
