A Fresh Fish Famine Coming.
A fresh water fish famine ifn this country is not far off. The leading fish dealers have long been aware that the supply of fish is growing smaller every year, and that the delicious white fish, salmon, trout and bass are becoming more difficult to get. The price of all kinds of fish has advanced more than 40 per cent, in the past ten years. The commonest kind are quoted at from 12 to 30 cents a pound, while only a short time ago 10 cents a pound for bass or white fish was considered an exorbitant figure. The great fish grounds in Lake Erie have become practically exhausted. The government has attempted to retard the famine by immense hatcheries, bat they cannot begin to turn out within one fourth of the demand.
