Mies Myra Clark went to Lafayette Saturday to visit relatives. Miss Clara Murray went to Monon Saturday to visit relatives. Ed Parcels is recovering from quite a serious sickness. Frank O’Mera went to Chicago today to remain several days. Miss Nellie Drake went to Chicago Saturday to visit relatives. Mrs. Mattie Grant is visiting her sister Mrs. Mary Sayers at DeMotte Miss Fannie Wood went to Logansport today to visit Mrs. Eva Crane. Rev. Ed Meads went to La Grange today to assist in a series of tent revival meetings. Harry Spence, manager of the Lafayette Daily Call, was in Rensselaer this morning. Earl Duvall left today for a visit at the Pan-American Exposition at Buffalo. Mrs. B. F. Ferguson anddaughter, Miss Ethel, returned Saturday from their visit in Monticello. } R. W. White went to Chicago Hieghts to visit his daughter, Mrs. M. C. Jones. Hermem Purdy and Fred Sanger, of Lowell, spent Sunday in Rensselaer.
Miss Lizzie Babcock spent Sunday with Miss Thena Meyer, at Water Valley. A. B. Cowgill and Dr. A. E. Schmodel attended camp meeting at Battle Ground Sunday. Miss Nancy Potts, of Indianapolis, came Saturday evening to visit her father, Larkin Potts. Van and Orlan Grant are visit ing their brothers, Ross and Glenn, at Goshen and South Bend. Mrs. A. F. Kimball, of Brooklyn N.Y;,- came Saturday to visit her parents Mr. and Mrs. Berry Paris. Warren Washburn ’and wife, of Goodland, visited his parents, Dr. and Mrs. I. B. Washburn, yesterday. G. L. Sanders and wife, who have been visiting the Shedd Bros, returned to their home in Grinnell lowa, today. Mrs. George Strickfaden and children returned Saturday evening from a five weeks’ visit in Champagne, 111. George K. Hollingsworth and family left this morning for Conover Wis„ for their summer outing. They will return about Sept. 1. R. Sprague, of Montezuma, came Saturday to visit his wife, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Woodworth. H. P. Baker, who has been visiting Lucius Strong here for the past week, left today for his home in Onarga, 111. Robert Yeoman is recovering from his recent sunstroke, and is now able to be up and around the house.
Mrs. T. Breiteprecher and children, of Chicago, came Saturday to visit the family of Paul Jantz, a carpenter residing in the northeast part of town. A. Bourne, of Decatur, 111., came Saturday to look after his farm interests, 3 miles eaet of town. Pearl Brown, residing across the river, stepped on the broken fragment of a beer bottle this morning and severely cut her fori. Mrs. E. P. Honan and eon went to Delphi today to remain until after the funeral on Wednesday, of the mother of M. A. Ryan, of that city, whose death occurred yesterday at her home in Logansport.

Miss Grace Pulver, who has been attending the training school for nurses at Danville, 111., came Saturday to visit her sister, Mrs. P. W. Clarke. Mrs. Martha Schrader of Lafayette, Mrs. Mildred Kau and little son Earl, of Logansport, and Misses Jessie Adams and Zora Wasser of Monon were the guests of Miss Edna Dillon over Sunday. For the week ending next Saturday, August 10, Rev. Irl Hicks promises us rain, and throws in a little hail and some violent storms. From Tuesday to Friday are the worst storm days predicted. B. R. Walsh is in Rensselaer today in the interest of A. Lewis’ Lafayette Cigar Co, Mr. Lewis is enjoying a fine trade in Lafayette, the demand there at present being larger than he is dble to supply. Sam Howe, formerly a resident of Rensselaer, and who Several years ago removed to Dwight, 111., arrived here today for a week’s visit. He is now living on a farm near Dwight and himself and family are all quite well, Mrs. Coffin and children of Indianapolis, returned home today after a two weeks’ visit in Rensselaer. Mrs. Coffin is a sister-in-law of Rev. C. D. Royse and an old college friend of Miss Kathryn Rodgers, and Mrs. Chas. Porter.
Wm, McElfresb, who suffered the fracture of his left leg, above the knee, and sustained other injuries in the elevator runaway accident on May 22nd, is able to set up today for the first time since sustaining the injuries, and be. is getting along quite nicely. The year old child of Mr. and Mis. Wm. Piatt, of near Aix, died Saturday night after au illness of only two of membranous croup. The funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock at the house by Rev. Labounty and interment was made in the Prater cemetery.
A peculiar epidemic among horses resembling human grip, is reported in Chicago, and 90 per cent of the horses are affected by it. The sick horse coughs, sneezes droops his head and is too sick to eat. The malady is entirely new to v eternaries. Taylor Boicourt returned today to resume bis position in Forsythe’s store, after an absence of about two months. He was suffering from a severe attack of rheumatism when he left and grew much worse shortly after leaving, but went to Indiana Mineral Springs and has now so far recovered as to be able to return to work. The funeral of Miss Carrie Mason will take place this Monday afternoon at Remington, the remains being brought there from Elwood, where the young woman died last Saturday. Deceased was about 25 years of age, and formerly resided in Remington, where her father was a Justice of the Peace. The family has lived in Elwood for several years, and the young lady had been in bad h ealt for several months.
Secretary J. N. Hurty, of the state board of health makes the astonishing prediction that the bubonic plague will sweep over Indiana before long. Three years ago he predicted that th*is dreadful plague would reach America. Now it has come and he ventures the second prediction that it will reach Indiana within a year and a half. It will not stop here, be says,. L>ut it will continue its work of deetruotion in Ohio and eastern states.
The Lewellan brothers, who reremoved their harness shop from this place to Terre Haute about June Ist, did not strike a very good location for that business, and the wife of George Lewellen, to whom the shop belonged, sold to other parties and William Lewellen and family were left in quite destitute circumstances in a strange town and he was unable to secure work. He was able to get back here with hie family and haa moved to a farm south of town.
Misses Lillian Sparklin, Grace Crowell and Helen Parks and Mr. Robert Newell, who have been guests for the past week at the home of Mrs. M. L. Spitler, left this morning for their home in Goshen. They started home Saturday afternoon, going as far es Sbelby on the train due here at 3:30. A wreck on the Three I made it impossib’e for them to reach home that evening, however, so they returned here and remain ed until this morning. From a Hastings, Minn., newspaper we learn of the resignation on account of poor health of Rev. M. R. Paradis of the Presbyterian church of that place and formerly the pastor of that denominetion here. The newspaper voices the regret not only of the members of the Presbyterian church there but also of all , citizens of the town because of bis decision to give up the pastorate His intentions for the future, we learn through Rensselaer parties with whom his family has kept in correspondence, are not determined upon. Hjmself and family will visit Rensselaer within a few weeks and it is possible they will decide to remove here and reside on his farm north of town.
