A Meeting of Postmasters.
A preliminary meeting for the organization of the postmasters of the 10th congressional distriot was held at the Nowela House in Rensselaer last Tuesday morning. The meeting was attended by the folio wing postmasters: J. L. Caldwell, of Lafayette; J. P. Farley, of Crown Point; Mort Kilgore, of Goodland; L. E. Cowgill, of Battle Ground; W. E. Peck, of Remington; Harry Strohm, of Kentland and Frank B. Meyer of this place. The purpose of the organization is the bettering of the mail service, the postmasters each desiring to profit by the experiences aod office appliances of others. It was not expected that the meeting would be largely attended, but those who were here are the most energetic and successful postmasters of the district and steps for the perpetuity of the organization were taken by appointment of the following executive committee, one postmaster from each county in the district. J. L. Caldwell, Tippecanoe. Jesse Birch, Benton. Mort Kilgore, Newton. J. P Farley, Lake. John Chambers, Warren, Wm. A. Banks, Laporte. J. Lytle, Porter. F. B. Meyer, Jasper. D. D. Phillips, White. Harry Strohm, at large. The executive committee is to meet on Aug. 20th, at some point yet to be agreed upon. Committees were also appointed on transportation, program and bylaws.
On invitation from Mr. Caldwell the district convention of the association will be held in the city of Lafayette, on Tuesday, October 22. ''The program for the convention will consist largely of papers prepared on different features of the service, and the organization is expected to contribute largely in both profit and pleasure to its members.
