, PARR. A good rain Wednesday night brightened the spirits of the people and the prospects for a corn crop. Threshing has begun in this vicinity. Oats are averaging about 30 bushels to tlje acre although- some fields are working 40 or more. Born to Mrs. Lucretea Hall, July 15, a girl baby. Otto Steel is working for Dr. Kirk. Fred Shultz purchased a fine horse from Judv & Wood, Wednesday- ’ Jos. Conway transacted business Tuesday. Miss Nellie Kiglit of South Chicago, is visiting Miss Blanche Conway. Judge Thompson was' in this vicinity Tuesday. • Our base ball team went to Gifford last Sunday and were defeated by the oil workers by a score of 13 to 18.

Mr. Hugh Gaff 7 is some better. Mrs. Will Nuss has returned home after a three weeks’ stay with her daughter in Illinois. James Torbet thrashed his rye and oats Tuesday. ■ The dande at Moore’s Saturday night was rather slimly attended. The funeral of Grandma Abbett was largely attended Sunday evening. Miss May Hayes has quit working for Mrs. Korah Daniels. John Hayes is home from Marion where he has been attending school. Mr 3. James Torbet has been very sick. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Zimmerman, Tuesday a big boy. Miss .Junie McCleary gave a party Saturday, the evening was spent in various games. Those present were Mr. Charley Hopkins and wife, Misses Mabel and Lenie Hardesty, Maggie Torbet and Temie Nuss, Messers Lenard Hayes, Bluford and Roy Torbet, Dan Hopkins, Will Nuss, Walter Daniels and Clarence Green.

A. McCoy was here Sunday. Laura Phillips, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, J. R. Phillips is very sick with measles. Mr. and Mrs. Tom otevenson and Rufus Orcott went from here on the excursion to St. Joe last Sunday. Christie Vick and Ike Glazebrook made a business trip to our city last Tuesday. The Christian Endeavor gave a very pleasant temperance entertainment here Sunday evening. Gustave Bernhardt, of Rensselaer Sundayed here. W. C. Huston and Maurice Gorham are on the sick list this week. L. W. Goodyear made a business trip to Rensselaer Wednesday. Mrs. Viruily and daughter, May, moved to Kersey Tuesday, where Mr, Viruily is working. There will be an ice cream social given at the school house here next Saturday evening, July 27th. The proceeds of which will be given to the church. A cordial invitation is extended to all.
FAIR OAKS.
Mrs. Thomas Fry is on the sick list. A number from here expect to take in the circus at Rensselaer next Monday. Several of the boys from here attended Odd Fellows lodge at Mt., Ayr last Saturday night. The monthly temperance meeting was postponed until next Sunday' Sunday evening July 28th, at M, E. church. Euos Moffitt has returned from Oklahoma. He thinks old Jasper is good enough for him. Mrs. Fannie Morgan is visiting her brother, J. J. Fry and family, at Rosa Lawn this week. Miss Nellie Kight, of Hegewisch, Ills., is visiting her uncle, Isaac Kight and family. Mrs, Chas. Gundy is visiting her parents at Kniman, Agent Nelson was on the sick list a couple of days this week. Extra agent Fry, of Rose Lawn, relieyed him. The ladies of the Christian church will give an ice oream social at the lawn of Littlefield & Erwin, Saturday evening, Aug. 3rd. Proceeds to go for getting new seats for the churoh. The Young People’s Christian Endeavor was organized last Sunday evening with the following officers elected. President, Blanche Dodge; secretary, Mae Fox; treaEthel Arnold; organist, Carrie Dodge. We were in error in stating that the money cleared by the Christian society from their Fourth of July refreshment stand would be used on the church debt. In correction we wish to state that the Christian church is all paid for, and that this money and the proceeds from the box supper is to be used to buy new seats for the church. Mrs. Sarah A., wife of Rev. A. C. Abbett, died last Saturday mqrning, July 20th, at her home at *6:50 a, m„ of flux, at the advanced years, 5 months and 9 days, after only about a week’s sickness. The deceased was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom survive her, besides her husband, three sons and four daughters, viz: James T., of Ashland, Oregon; Edgar J„ of Anthony, Kans., John A., of Indianapolis; Mrs. Harriett J. Ott and Mrs. Melle McColly, of Chicago Heights: Mrs Mary L. Switzer, of Aix, and Mrs. Maggie E, Daniels, of Blackford, all being present at the funeral except James T. and Edgar J. The funeral was held at the Rose Bud M. P. church Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock, th% religious services being conducted by Rev. Laßounta and were very largely attended, Interment at Prater cemetery in Barkley township.
