Along Gifford’s Road.
A report comes through no less an authority than John C. Vanatta, the Brookston capitalist, that the sale of the Gifford railroad system has been contracted to eastern parties, to be consummated when the north line is finished 10 Chicago Heights. • The people along the line, including the local manager, know nothing of the truth or falsity of the rumor. The last rail of the Gillam oil field branoh was laid, Satdrday. Shipping of oil will now proceed with vigor. A new power pumping plant is to be installed at once, and there is talk of establish, ing an asphalfum factory, in the field, near Gifford’s road also. The new engine was expected Saturday, and the new train will soon be put on the regular sched- J ule. The northern extension is now j graded clear to the Kankakee | river, except one or two short j breaks. Grading north of the j river is also in progress.
