WEST JORDAN. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Johnson of near Mt. Ayr vyere the guests of Mr. and Mrs, Judson last Saturday and Sun da yHay making has been progressing finely during this nice weather and some of our enterprising farmers are now cutting oats. Mr. Albert Wortley is intending starting for Oklahoma some time this week, » Miss Ella Putt was the guest of Miss Belle Burr last Sunday, Sunday School at Union school house every Sunday. The time being changed from 10 to 10;30. All invited to attend. Mrs. R. W. Johnson has returned to her home in Logansport. The exhibition of moving pictures was considered quite a failure at Uni&n but at Egypt was a great deal better. . , Mrs. Dewees is suffering with a carbuncle, at present
NORTHWEST BARLEY.
The farmers are cutting oats. Rain is needed. Mrs. Hugh Gaily is very sick. Miss Junie McCleary is home after a few months stay with Sam Parkers of Valma. A number of young folks took in the excursion to Michigan Sunday. Mr. Hays is on the sick list, Miss Tippy Fletcher visited her father over Sunday. Charley Jenkins and Bill Daniels are pntting up hay. Sunday School at Blackford was well attended Sunday afternoon. Jim Baker is helping Hopkins cut oats. Mr. Hopkins is able to walk to the field. The neighbors and friends of James Torbet met Sunday and gave him a surprise it being his fiftieth birthday. The tables were spread with abundance of food. All enjoyed the day returning home at a late hour in the evening. About forty-five were present.

Hot! Hotter!! Hottest!!! Real estate like harvest is a rushing business. The Marion farm joining town on the west was sold last week, consideration $74 per aore. The W. W. Wishard farm just west of town was sold at $75 per acre. Railroad election in Jaokson Tp. July 27th. Don't forget the date or purpose. J, H. Dunlap late of Kosciosko County is back cutting meat for J. H. Crisler again, H. O. Harris is having his house on the old homestead generally repaired and painted, which [adds greatly to the appearance. Following are Jasper county people that circulate with us quite frequently. Messrs. Jas, Yeoman, Roe Yeoman, R. J. Yeoman, Randolf Wright, Jackson Freeland, Everett, Rankin and Wm. Halstead, C. G. Hammond, Wilson Sbaeffer etc. The Mt. Ayr band gives free open air concerts on Saturday nighty of each week which have been largely attended.

Mrs. Carrie Boule, of Kankakee, 111., is visiting her sister, Mrs. H. E. Gifford of Newland this week. Chester Caster is on the sick list with stomach trouble. Miss Blanche Blake visited her parents at Newland Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Callahan visited friends at Francesville Sunday. Germain and Omera finished painting Coach No. I Saturday. Mrs. Sarah Tombs is seriously ill and Dr. English is attending her. The C. & W. V. will run an ex-
cursion to St. Joe, Mich , next Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jordan and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Torbett Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Zook visited L. Shell and wife Sunday, J. H. McNeese and Reece Roby went to Rensselaer on a business trip Tuesday. Thurman Smith took his steam engine to Winamac Saturday, where be will thresh wheat for a couple of weeks. Mrs. A 1 Blake visited her parents at Medaryville Monday.

Regular monthly temperance meeting at the M. E. church next Sunday evening. Everybody invited. Miss Katie Nelson, of Brookston, was the guest of her sister Mrs. Cottingham, over Saturday night, The proceeds from the Christian box SHpper last Saturday evening were $lO. Mae Fox was voted the most popular young lady present and received a handsome cake as a prize. Miss Verne Goldsberry left Sunday for Chicago where she expects to remain for some time. A fine boy was born to Sir. and Mrs. John Mundon, at Momence, 111.. June 26tb, A number of young couples tripped the light fantastio at the last Saturday night. Refreshments were served. Dr. Schmadel, of Rensselaer, was in town Sunday evening. a John Gwin of Rensselaer, visited his daughter Mrs. Mundon, a few days this week. Felix Erwin and Alice Proudly spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. R, O. Graves, at Morocco. Mrs. Mundon celebrated her birthday, July 9th, by entertaining her Sunday School class in the evening with games, musio etc. Light refreshments were served. Miss Frances Brady is visiting friends and relatives in Chicago. Dr. Proudly left Tuesday morning for a weeks recreation at Toleston, Lake county, also to visit old friends.
