A Lake County Libel Suit

A libel suit from the superior court of Lake oounty has just been filed in our circuit court, on change of venue. Wm. J. McAleer, prosecuting attorney of Lake county, is the plaintiff and the Evening Press and Journal of Chioago, the defendant. Last year the Journal published a wild looking story of one Amin Benedik, of Chioago, telling how he had been persecuted by one Lundin, a former employer. The story included an alleged illegal arrest of Benedik by McAleer and Sheriff Lawrenoe, of Lake Co., and his confinement in jail at Crown Point, for some months, on a slim diet of bread and water which he eked out by eating the soft parts of his shoes. McAleer was a candidate for re-eleotion at the time the story was published and claims that it did him great injury, and he therefore sues for $5,000 damages.
