Almost Unanimous.

The Vote For the Railroad Subsidy Was Twenty to One. The railroad election Monday on the proposition to vote a subsidy for the' proposed east and west railroad. The Chicago & Toledo Transfer Railroad Company, demonstrated in a most striking manner, that the people of Rensselaer and Maxion township are fully alive to the advantages of railroads in general and an east and west railroad in particulars The vote for the subsidy was so overwhelming as to be practically unanimous. There were over 20 votes cast for it to one against it. The vote was rather light, as the farmers, who are very busy, did not take the time to come in and vote, knowing that it would carry anyhow. Those who did come in, seemed about as unanimous for the road as the town voters were. The total vote cast waa 413, or about 43 percent of the full vote of the town and township. Of these 413 votes, 394 were for the appropriation and only 19 against it. The vote by precincts was as follows. FOB AG UN ST Precinct 1 110 5 Precinct 2 - 130 7 Precinct 3 70 2 Precinct 4 84 5 Totals 394 19 Rensselaer is the first place to vote on the new railroad, and has set a pace which will have a strong influence on the vote in other places, where elections are pending. Among these areĀ® Mt. Ayr and Morocco, in Newton county. Francesville and Winamao, in Pulaski county and Rochester, in Fulton county.
