Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 22, Number 84, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 9 July 1901 — LOWELL DONE US UP. [ARTICLE]
LOWELL DONE US UP.
A hastily organized ball team went to Lowell the 4th and met a team from that town, which had been strengthened by the importation of a Chicago battery and two or three other players. The result was not so disastrous as might have been expected under these adverse circumstances and the final score was 7 to 3 in Lowell’s favor. This defeat was appeased by the winning by Rensselaer’s high school athletes of all but two of the field events, and in these two they were close seconds. About $lB was paid to the Rensselaer boys in premiums. The celebration there was a very complete success and the 100 visitors from Rensselaer thoroughly enjoyed it.
