They Found The Remains.

About 10:30 Sunday night there were loud cries of “murder” in the alley near the rear of the Nowels House, post-office etc., followed by a loud report, like a big gun. Postmaster Meyer and wife heard the noise at their house on River street, and ran over, and Stewart Bail porter of the Nowels House, after waking all the guests in the house in search of a revolver, also hurried to the place where the shouts and shot came from. There they found the mangled remains—not of a murdered man or maid, but only of an exploded giant firecracker! The would-be rescuers did not think it worth while to call the coroner to sit on the “remains.”
