PLEASANT RIDGE. Harve and Alfred Lowman and Jacob Garling visited friends in Chicago Sunday, J. W. McConahay was in Chicago Thursday on business. Henry Eiglesbach shipped a load of cattle Sunday night. Geo. Bishop and Emma Shook were in Remington Thursday. ■ Emma Shook has returned to Chicago after two weeks visit. Delos Thompson shipped a ear load of hogs Tnesday night.

Plenty or rain for the present. J Some corn badly damaged by the rain ond wind; zzz±zzz± Mrs, Burr and Mrs. Johnson vTsited in Mt. Ayr last week. Mrs. R. W. Johnson of Logansport is visiting her parents. Many of the young people of this neighborhood spent the Fourth in Kentland. Misses Martha and Tillie Beckler are the guests of Miss Marie Simouin this week. H. M. Burr has his wind pump in running order again after its wreck from the storm, Henry Henkle has'gone to Rose Lawn and for some unknown reason made a trip to Kentland enroute. Rev. Laßounty preached last Sunday evening and remained through the week to help in the building of the church, which is rapidly nearing completion.
MT. AYR AND WEST JASPER
Harvest is at hand in this vicinity. B. G. Wolley suffered a stroke of heat on Tuesday, but is better at present. Mt. Ayr Cornet Band went to Morocco on the 4th with a good crowd from this place, Jas. Yeoman was laboring hard to induce a crowd from this place to attend the temperance exercises at Rensselaer on July 4th ; Randolph Wright of Newton Tp , was on our streets Wednesday as jovial as ever. Roe Yeoman cirulates qnite frequently with our folks. Welcome Roe. Prof. E. E. Hufty was united in marriage with Miss Pearl Pendergrass of near Kentland on Wednesday June 26, 1901. Mr. Hufty still retains the principalship of our school. His wife also has a room in same. Our base ball team suffered defeat on Thursday last by a Rensselaer team, and not satisfied went to Morocco on Sunday and was beaten again. Will say nothing about the score in either game. Boys remember, you must persevere if you will succeed.
ALONG THE RURAL ROUTE.
People are trying to plow their < oom, Old Mr. Rain visits us every day, Dan Lesh bonght a cream separator of George Ott, the other day. Isaac McCurtain’s horse got loose Saturday night and started home. It left the buggy at the side of the road and went alone. Lincoln Jenkins went to Monon Saturday and returned home Sunday. Sunday School at Blackford every Sunday at 3 o’clock, everybody invited. George Vance and family of Bradley, 111., 'are visiting at Wm Green’s. Several young people from this vicinity attended a surprise party at Charley Hopkins’ last Saturday night; all had a good time. , David Long cut rye for Sarah Arnold last Monday and Tuesday. It i was the first grain cut in this local. ity this year. And still another old “hoe down*’ was held in this part of the country
this time at George Schreiner’s Saturday night, several young people being present. All enjoyed a good time and got home in time for beeakfast the next morning.

Miss Pyrle Parker has gone to Valparaiso to visit friends over the Fourth. Mabel. Frank, and Susie McDonald went to Logansport Wednesday to visit relatives. w Mr. and Mrs. Roland Johns entertained a number of their friends at Thetr““hbme last Saturday evening." Dainty refreshments were served. Mr. August Ringeisen from Delrey 11l , is visiting his parents this week. Quite a number of our young people attended the ice cream social at Osborne last Saturday night. The proceeds were about sll. W. W. Lee’s new hardware store will soon be completed and ready for occupancy. Curtis Randle of Enid, Okla., is visiting, -his mother, Mrs. J. T. Randle. Rev. Brady' of Rensselaer held services at the school house Sunday evening June 30. Arrangements have been made for him to preach here every two weeks. John Foster and Miss Clara Lutz visited the former’s uncle at Delphi last week. Miss Lulu Rishling of Lee is staying at the McCoysburg Hotel. Herman Nimms visited his parents at Francesville, Monday and Tuesday, of last week. Mr. * Blakemore, who has been working in Chicago, came Tuesday evening for a short visit with his daughter, Mrs. Julia Grounds, south of town. ——x. ___ ; ; _2 _' _ ..
