The father of the game of whist, Edmond Hoyle, lived to be 97 yean old. His treatise on cards has been pubt lished in all languages and probably no work except the Bible has passed through more editions. The original work appeared in London In 1742 and by 1770 it had reached Its fifteenth edition.
