Tuesday Was A Scorcher.

Tuesday was the hottest day of the century, so far. In Chicago the government thermometer, which takes the temperature way at the top of the Auditorium tower which is several degrees cooler than at the surface, it was 89 degrees in the shade. Here, as usual, every different thermometer told a different story, the general range being from 93 to 100. Even the (J. S. thermometer got stampeded and went up to 100 some tftne during the afternoon. It is located in a pretty hot corner however, and no doubt received a good deal of reflected heat. A fair average of the different thermometer would be about 95 degree. Today is not quite so hot, but is hot enough, and at noon a reliable thermometer in good shade, stood at 88 degrees.
