Birth-Day Celebration.
The birthday of “The Old War Eagle,” our former townsman Gen. R. H. Milroy was fittingly celebrated by the Gen. Robt. H. Milroy Circle No. 3, Lidies of the G. A. R. at the home and in the large yard of Mrs. M. E. Spitler on the evening of the 11th inst. The , members Jof the Cirle and of Post 84 G. A. R. and other guests to the number of some two hundred assembled and after a very social time in the shade of the trees listened to some very appropriate remarks by Mrs. M. E. Thompson concerning her early and con- 1 tinuous acquaintance with the bluff, hearty and heroic General aud his estimable Lady. Mrs. Thompson was also charged withpresenting, on behalf of the Circle I a beautiful silver set of souvenir j t?a-spoons with the old Milroy | homestead eugraved thereon to 1 Mrs Spitler as a token of regard from the circle, which duty with well chosen words she performed, and to which Mrs. Spitler feelingly responded; The Circle was then formed surrounding table loaded with good things and a lapluncheon more than equal to the capacity of the recipient was passed to each. Various cold meats, chicken, pickles, salads, sandwiches deviled eggs, pies and a great variety of cakes with strawberries and cream, coffee and lemonade were discussed to the heart’s content (and stomach’s too) of all present. The aged and decrepid were remembered with carriages and thus enabled to enjoy the lay-out with their more athletic friends. Altogether it was such an enjoyable affair as will long be remembered by the participants. One Who Was There.
