Sayler & Company Will Pave Streets

Other Connell Proceedings. The chief matter of importance at the city council last meeting was the opening of the bids for the street paving and the subsequent letting of the contract. There are five bidders for the work and T. J. Sayler & Co., of this city, are successful in securing all the work. The bids are made separately for the work on each brick block, and for the the three blocks of macadamized street, thirty feet wide on Cullen street from Harrison to Work street. Sayler & Co’s., bids are the lowest in each case and they are given the contract. For the brick on Cullen and Harrison streets they bid $11.65 per lineal foot, for the brick on Van Rensselaer street they bid $10.65 per lineal foot, for the macadamized street they bid $2.70 per lineal foot. The total cost of the three brick blocks will be about $12,100. Ofi the nearly three blocks of macadam about $2,000. The four unsuccessful bidders were, The Indiana Paving and Construction Co. of Indianapolis; Mr. Potter of Lafayette; Gilmore, Downs & Pierce, of Lebanon; and D. H. Yeoman, of the Iroquois Improvement Company, of Rensselaer. The latter bid on the macadam work and one block only of the brick work. Cement walks have been ordered on parts of Webster, Park, Scott and Cedar streets. Miss Monnett remonstrated against the cement walk order past her property across the river, and as she owns two-thirds of the property along which it was to be constructed, the order was revoked.
