About Indiana Schools.

Indiana paid out last year for the maintenance of the public schools $8,021,138.84. She has a corps of teachers numbering nearly 15,500 who wield the rod in 10,038 school houses, 89 of which are stone. The enumeration of school children last year was and 556,000 were enrolled. At the close of the term 10,000 students graduated from the eighth grade and 3,800 from the high schools. There are 873 high schools in the state, with 35,000 students enrolled and employing 1,500 teachers. Indiana stands pretty well up towards the top when it comes to school facilities.
