That Succession of Runaways.
Our readers, we are sure, will be interested in having that remarkable list of runaways which occurred last week, all summed up under one head. It surely was the most notable series of accidents from the same cause that ever took place in* the cOunty in the same length of time, before. Here is the list. Sunday afternoon, May 12, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Nowels’ horse ran away near the south side of town. Mr. Nowels’ ribs broken and otherwise bruised, and Mrs. Nowels’ shoulder blade and collar bone fractured. Monday forenoon, May 13th, Penn’s sprinkler wagon team runs away, in Rensselaer. Caught at full speed by Fred Parcells, the champion foot-racer. Dangerous, but no one hurt. Monday evening, May I.3th. Double runaway at Burk’s bridge. Sheriff Hardy, J. F. Irwin and Wm. Zea, all more or less bruised. Mrs. Logan Wood escaped by jumping from the bridge railing. Wednesday afternoon, May 15th, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Kenton’s horse runs away 1| miles northwest of town. Mrs. Kenton’s hip dislocated and fractured; and Mr. Kenton somewhat bruised. Thurday afternoon, May 16th. Team with land roller runs away at Comer (now Newland) in Barkley Tp. Thomas Dexter, the driver, is killed. Same afternoon, Mrs. Wm. Pruitt, of Jordan, has a runaway near Brook. Has her arm broken. Friday, May 17, Robert Irwin’s team, in Carpenter Tp., runs away with harrow, and breaks his leg. Same day, or near the®, Wash Lowman’s team, near .Pleasant Ridge, runs away. Lowman and daughter thrown out. Daughter’s face badly cut.
