Fire at Wolcott.
Last night about 12 o’clock fire was discovered by the night watch in the stairway leading to the band room at Wolcott. The alarm was given and citizens turned out in large numbers to fight the fire. The chemical engine was used to good effect but the blaze had gained such headway that the whole row of frame buildings in the square on the east side of Range street and north of Market street was soon burning. By morning the whole block, exoept two buildings on the north, which were saved by the chemical engine, was in ashes. The losses are estimated at about $7,500 only a part of which is covered by insurance. The loos to A. Leopold, of this, place amounts to about $1,500 on merchandise and there is no insurance.
