Warren Springer Got the Hot End.

Warren Springer, the Chicago and, Jaspei* county land magnate, has got into the newspapers again. which is nothing unusual in itself for he gets into more newspaper sensations and incidents, one way and another, than any other man of his Bize in Chicago. There is one thing very peculiar and in fact unprecedented about this last incident. It is that Springer got the hot end of the poker in a business transaction. It was such an unheard of and supposed impossible thing to do that Springer himself isTost in admiration for 'the man who did it. He says: j “E was done up beautifully, and’ ! I’m not going to complaiu. If I 1 met that man tomorrow, I’d shake hands and say, “Try it again old | man.” The man spoken of got $£5,400 in cash out of Springer for shares in a fake gold mine in Colorado, His name was W. G. Fernald. His alleged * wife, described as a .‘•olever and comely woman” seems to have been a prominent factor in persuading Springer to go into the deal. Ah there, Warren, old boy! * That Fernald combination ought to try their hands next, on Harry Crawford. If they beat Warren Springer they might also be able to beat the king of beats.
