Another Street Improvement Petitioned For. At the city council meeting, Monday evening, a petition was presented asking that the balance of Cullen street be macadamized. The proposition is to improve the sud width of the street along the east side of the public square, and to make a3O foot pike the other two blocks, to Grace street. Referred to street committee. The petition was signed for the J. F. Warren, J. R. Vanatta, E. C. English and J. W. Medicos properties or enough to prevent the defeat of the improvement. Several other property owners also favor the improvement. The Mayor was authorized to accept offer of standard Oil Co, for machine oil and waste, for another year. Prices are somewhat lower than the present contract. Considerable discussion was had over the fire department situation. The chief recommends that the old chemical engine be remodeled J into a supply wagon, for carrying extra hose, fire buckets etc. Also that the old bell tower be enclosed ' and made into a drying room. [ Both recommendations referr'ed to committee on fire depart- ’ ment. Will probably be adopted. Nothing definite was done in the way of measures to increase the Are department. The committee is directed to have an ordinance drafted, after which another joint conference with the fire department will be held. Firemen who attended the Erastus Peacock fire were each allowed $2.50 for same. A few claims were considered and allowed.
