East and West Railroad Again.
The project for an east and west or rather a northeast and southwest railroad, which was supposed to have died when G. H. Tenney departed this life, at Kendallville, last summer, is still possessed of some vitality, though how much we are not prepared to say. W. H. Hamilton, of Goodland, the civil engineer who was formerly associated with Mr. Tenney, is now passing over the route again and stayed here last Monday night. He states that he has organized a local company and has practically completed negotiations for the money to build the road. He states alsu that a charter has been received. The plan is to start at Toledo, Ohio, and run southwestwarp until the Mississippi is reached, and perhaps still further. Mr. Hamilton hopes to have a surveying party out in 30 days or so. We believe now, as always, that there is a good opening for a railroad along thin general route, and that, sooner or later, one will be built, but we are not, as yet, greatly impressed with the prospects of Mr. Hamilton’s scheme, but for all that we believe in giving it every encouragement present or future circumstances will seem to warrant
