A Dwelling Badly Damaged.
A fire alarm occurred just after noon, Thursday. The fire was in a good dwelling house, in the extreme west part of town, on the old Remington road. It belonged to Erastus Peacock and was occupied by his son-in-law, Oscar McClure. The fire appears to have started on the outside of the building near the ground, and to have followed up under the siding, to the roof. Owing to the great distance to the nearest fire hydrant, the one near Wrq. Washburn’s residence, the fire could not be reached with one hose, and not until cart No. 2, from the depot arrived could any water be thrown; and by the time the fire was under control the entire roof Was gone, and the side walls considerably damaged. Practically all of the household goods were saved. The damage to the house will resell several hundred dollars. The building is understood to have been insured.
