The City Council.

At the Council meeting Monday night., a committee from the fire company was present and a long discussion ensued regarding the reduced numbers of the oompany and the means necessary to be taken to secure a larger membership. The total number now in both hose companies is only eleven. The general tenor of the discussion was to the effect that the compensation of members must be very materially increased, but nothing definite was deoided upon, nor even suggested. A conference of committees from the Council and the fire company will be held Wednesday evening. The committee appointed to negotitate for another and larger incandescent light dynamo, submitted a proposition from the General Electric Company to furnish a thoroughly rebuilt 2,400 C. P. dynamo for $l,lOO. The committee have investigated the matter pretty thoroughly and be lieve this to be a great bargain. Tbe committee was not sure, however, if the offer included what is teohnioally called an “exciter” and were directed to correspond with General Electric Co., on that point, before action is taken on their preposition. Some 28 claims were allowed amounting to $3199.
