Insane Not Increasing.
The statistics complied by the board of State Charities in regard to the insane population of the state show that on Oct. 31, 1900, there were 4,609 insane persons in Indiana. Of these 2,221 were in the central district, 850 in ths northern, 731 in the eastern and 707 in the southern. 159 insane persons in the state are kept at home, 51 of them were reported as being in the jails, 508 were in the were in the poor asylums and the remainder, 3,791, are enrolled in the four hospitals for the insane, Praotioally all insane patients in the state demanding hospital treatment have been received. The conclusion of the board from the figures it has gathered is that the number of insane persons in this state is not increasing.
