The county commissioners finished up the w n rk of their January session, 1901, in two days. Joseph Conway was granted a saloon license, at Parr. Martin Burton, who had given notice, by publication, of intention to apply for a saloon license at Gifford, was met by the usual remonstrance, signed by a majority of the voters of Barkley tp., and his application was therefore denied and the regular order, barring him for two years, was duly entered on record. One bid only was received for completing Keener Township gravel roads. —lt was by the Indiana Macadam Co., and aggregated $21,705; or at the rate of over S4OOO per mile for the five miles still to be constructed. The Board took the bid under advisement. C. W. Baker, superintendent rs the Gillam gravel road reported having let the contract for its construction to John Hack, of Lowell, for $6,500.
