There is nothing more unjustifiable nor reprehensible, than the abuse of public by newspapers of opposite politics, and no decent newspaper of any party, now pursues that policy. Honest criticism, when it is needed, is right and proper, but constant and indi&pminate abuse and misrepresenytion is all wrong. But above all is it wrong and actually criminal, when it is done, as it has been for jears in this county by a certain newspaper and its virtual predecessor, to compel or practically blackmail, the officials into giving those papers public patronage, or in revenge ibthey did not. In this county tad town, there have been a practically constant succession

of Democratic officials, ever sing The Republican has its present managem en|Z? n 8 one of these officials QFC eCe ™’ . , .l Jr other than CBn ? i considerate M offioiale^ lß Rkpublican ? **“’ W m ' Hoover, ISllEunt, John F. How differentrin comparison with this is the abuse ani misrepsentation that h# been heaped upon RepublicaflK>fficials by this one .of the opposition papers here; and especially those Republican officials who had public patronage to bestow, and would not be com > pelled by threats and abuse to bestow it upon the paper which abused them.
