The Jasper County Oil Field.

Friday’s Indianapolis News has an extended renew of the oil industry of Indiana, describing each oil field, in detail. The Jasper county field is credited with 158 new producing wells, in 1900. with a production of 1,015 barrels. Also with 16 dry or gas wells. The special description of the field is as follows: The most important oil field opened np during the present year is the Medaryville district, Jasper county, where, since the first of April, there have been 158 wells drilled. This field is where the heavy lubricating oil is found at a shallow depth, and a well can be drilled in a few days. The huge oil derricks are an unknown thing in that district, as the pole system of drilling, and the regular drilling machines are being ueed to good advantage, and -the expense of a .“rig” is done away with. This district is look ed upon as a very valuable one, as thousands of acres of the Kankakee mart-h, or WBste lands, are coming in as good oil land. After the oil passes through warm water it is in the best of shape to go to market. Some of the oil in in its orude'state has sold as high as $8 per barrel. The wells are not large, averaging less than three barrels each, but at that production they are money-makers, and more so than in the Indiana field proper, as there is a vast difference in the price of the two products. New oil companies are being formed for the purpose of -drilling teat wbllb in various seotions of the Kankakee valley. It is estimated that 1,500 wells will be drilled in the waste lands and throughout the valley within the next dozen months.
