Remonstrating By Power of Attorney.

The Supreme Court Friday reversed the case of Charles Cochell vs Lewis C. Reynolds and others. This is the case from Monon in -which the right to give a general power of attorney for signing remonstrances under the Nicholson law was questioned. The effect of the decision is to hold that where such a power —undertakes to leave it to the attorney to decide which applicants for saloon license shall be remonstrated against, it is invalid. The Court intimates very strongly that if the jjower contained an express direction to the attoney to sign names to remonstrances against one or all applicants, the attorney’s act in signing it would be as affective as if the party giving the power of attorney had signed it himself. But the authority to decide in what cases remonstrances shall be filed can not be delegated. Thus as we understand the decision, if the voters of Barkley township, who are having a succession of applicants at Gifford, will prepare sign a power of attorney authorising and directing some one person to sign their names to a remonstrance against every applicant for a saloon license in the township, for some specified period time, then the acts of this authorized person in so signing their names will be legal and effective. If the attorney or agent is to use his discretion, to sign or not sign, ,then the act would not be legal.

The Red Light.

DANGER SIGNAL THAT MUST ALWAYS BE OBEYED. When there is danger on the railroad a red light is displayed. To run by this signal means death or injury to the passengers. All through life we see the danger signals and, if unheeded, sorrow, despair and sometimes death result. These warnings are out by man or nature for our protection. Nature sends out a warning signal when her laws have been disobeyed and there is danger going farther before the wrong*has been righted. The befit machinery needs oil, so does the human machine. The system becomes run down and needs to be built up. ,It must be placed in a healthy condition before it will do its work properly. If the blood is impure aud the liver torpid, the stomach fails to do its work and dyspepsia, nervousness, catarrh, headaches, and constipation are the result. These are nature’s signal. Heedjthem before it is too late.

A new combination of thoroughly tried and tested remedies called Knox Stomach Tablets are now offered to suffering humanity. The old man explained that they were after a license, also, but that he guessed the young man was scared out. He hadn’t showed up again when we went to press. What “Old Man Jones” will do to “Old Man Hoyt*’ one of these times, when he is feeling right fat and don’t have to bowl with his back against a brick wall, was shown Saturday evening, at the bowling alley. Uncle Bill N. bowled the seven straight games then, and made a total score of 1393 pins. This was 233 more than he made at Hammond, Wednesday night and 94 more than his opponent, E. M. Hoyt made at taat time. We think Uncle Bill will fix Uncle Hoyt good and plenty, one of these times.
