Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 22, Number 25, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 14 December 1900 — That Hammond Sensation. [ARTICLE]
That Hammond Sensation.
A great and painful sensation was caused in Hammond, one day last week, by the discovery of the body of an infant, under a sidewalk under circumstances that indioated that a criminal abortion, and possibly infantioide had been performed. Judging from the talk of the Hammond detectives who were here a few days ago, still more sensational developements are likely to follow. The names of Rensselaer parties are mentioned as closely ’connected with the affair but tne one seemingly held to be the chiefly guilty party now resides in Hammond; and for whom, if reports are Uue, the doors of the penitentiary are yawning wide for.
