Gifford Railroad, To-Date.
From B. J. Gifford himself, we learn the present situation on the Gifford railroad. The line to McCojsburg will be finished, and connections effected with the Monon, seme time this week. Owing to the lateness of the sea°on, and the likelihood of winter closing down at anytime, it is not likely that any grading will be done on the Gifford-Rens-selaer line, this year. The work of securing the right of way will be commenced very soon. The route has now bsen definitely decided upon, except for some possible variations of a few feet. It is the route heretofore described, keeping east and south from Doc Nichol’B corner, crossing the northwest oorner of Nate Eldredge’s farm, and passing through the Murray and H. E. Parkison places, and reaching the Iroquois river in the immediate vicinity of Groom’s bridge. * The ridere of land which caused the original more direct route to bo abandoned, is a continuation of the same high glacial ridge which passes across Marion tp. about two miles north of Rensselaer and of which the famed Givens’ Hill is a part. Like all glacial drift ridges, this descends very abruptly on the southern side and this abrupt descent is what made the trouble in grading a railroad down its southern sides.
