About the Diphtheria Danger,
According to the bulletin of the State Board of Health, diphtheria exists in every county of the state amounting in some instances to a very serious epide/nic. At South Bend where there have been some seventy-five deaths; so far only a few cases have developed about Rensselaer and immediate vicinity, and it is not yet necessary nor desirable that the city schools should be closed. In order to prevent this it is urgently requested of every parent or guardian having care of school children that in case hoarseness <sr soreness of throat be present such ohild or children be kept at Ihome a few days, and in case of fever accompanying above symptoms that the family physician be called at once. Keeping suoh children from school for a few days is no hardship and may prevent thereby exposure of others. The teachers have been requested to excuse from school any child with sore throat, hoarseness or cough. This is urged as a measure of expediency and in order to prevent more serious developements. S. Curtis Johnson, M. D. Sect’y Board of Health.
