Bennett Couldn’t Do It

But They Gave Us a Hard Old Tussel. The Second Round We Got Them Downed And Then They Groaned and Hit the Ground. The last game of the foot ball season was played on the home grounds Thursday before a crowd of 600 spectators. The Bennett Medical college team, composed of as brawny and well-trained men as have been seen on these grounds this year, opposed our team in this contest. Two men, representing Rensselaer’s ancient enemy, Crown Point, played on the Bennett team. One of them, Hayward by name, upheld his past reputation, as a kicker of the chronic variety and was guyed enthusiastically by the good-natured crowd. Rensselaer prevented the visitors from scoring but only after buckling down to hard work to.withstand the heavy rushes of the Doctors. The game was close enough to bring the excitement up to a high pitch and every gain by either team was well earned. Saylor was injured in the first half, but did not leave the field as there was no substitute available for the place so we were deprived of the usual hard line bucking which has won a reputation for the cool-headed ful-back Mills played a hard game in the forenoon and was not up to his usual standard, and the chief part of the ground gaining was left to Parcels who played the swiftest and most effective game ever seen on this field. All his gains were made straight through the left tackle where the stalwart Moon regularly made a large opening for Parcells to go through. It took the Rensselaer line some time to learn to get down low in order to stop the fast plays of the Bennetts, but they learned it in time to prevent a touch down being made.

Tbo teams were the most evenly mated and it was the hardest fought game seen here this year. The Bennetts had been practicing every day with the Physicians & Surgeons team, and our boys had not practiced a single time in two weeks. Parcells made the touchdown and Sayler kicked goal. Sayler has tried to kick goal 18 times this season and has made it 17 times. Probably not a better can be found anywhere. The only score made was in the second half, and our boys would have made another, had not one of our boys mistakenly claimed to have touched the ball when he had not. Rensselaer has made 107 soore 8 this year and not been scored against a single time. There were no sensational or trick plays in the game, but all good, hard, honest, line-bucking football. Our boys are the undisputed champion athletic or city team of Indiana. And “It’s our time to howl!” Marriage License. xr | Herman Robbins, Nov ‘ 26 1 Anna Hofmann.
